November - Praying for our Departed children

During this month of November, we here at Pray for Children, remember in prayer all our children who have died. Each week we will pray for a particular group.

Suicide is unfortunately in the news again. It seems that more and more people are feeling that suicide is the only way out.

I had great difficulty sleeping recently. I had just discovered that someone I knew committed suicide. I was stunned, I was upset, and I was also angry. Why? Why had they done this? It was so, so unexpected. But most of all, I was upset for them. I was upset that this person experienced a level of despair, a level of anguish and anxiety that they could not cope with. Jesus, Son of David, have pity on them.

Prayer for Those Who Have Committed Suicide

Bless, O God of eternal life, all who have died
by their own hand.
Grant them peace
from their inner turmoil
and the compassion of your love.
Comfort those who mourn
their loved ones.
Strengthen them to face the questions of pain,
the guilt and anger,
the irreparable loss.
Help us to reach out in love
to others who prefer death
to the choices of life
and to their families who grieve.
Amen.
